Biallelic loss of function (LoF) variants in SMPD4 cause a rare and severe neurodevelopmental disorder with progressive congenital microcephaly and early death. SMPD4 encodes a sphingomyelinase that hydrolyzes sphingomyelin into ceramide at neutral pH and can thereby affect membrane lipid homeostasis.

Radiation dose to patients from imaging modalities is measured or calculated to assess the risk of the procedure and compare it with the benefits. Periodic review of image acquisition methods and the radiation dose used are an essential part of optimization in medical imaging.

Studies have mainly assessed the effect of hyperglycemia on 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in the brain. In this study, we assessed the FDG uptake of the brain not only in normo- and hyperglycemia but also in hypoglycemia to compare the effect of various blood glucose levels on regional FDG uptake in the brain.

Pinhole has been the main standard collimator to be used for thyroid imaging. There has been a gradually increasing trend to replace pinhole with the use of high-resolution low-energy parallel-hole collimator with zoom in thyroid imaging. The objective of this study is to compare parallel-hole collimator acquisition of thyroid gland with that obtained by pinhole collimator to find the effect on the diagnostic information in nodular thyroid disease.

In the era of targeted therapy and high precision radiotherapy for patients with cancer, tailoring and individualization of treatment is needed more and more. In part to avoid ineffective administration of a toxic treatment to a patient that unlikely to get any benefit of it. And also to decrease the expenses of treatment and saving the drugs and resources to patients that deserve.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection is implicated with multiple sclerosis (MS) risk, exacerbation, and progression. The HLA-DRB1*1501 haplotype is a strong MS risk factor consistently documented in MS populations. There are no studies of EBV infections and HLA-DRB1*1501 haplotype associating with MS from Kuwait where MS prevalence has increased significantly.

From whole organisms to individual cells, responses to environmental conditions are influenced by genetic makeup, where the effect of genetic variation on a trait depends on the environmental context. RNA-sequencing quantifies gene expression as a molecular trait, and is capable of capturing both genetic and environmental effects.

We previously profiled the chemical composition of wax apple, Syzygium samarangense, leaf extract using HR-LC-MS/MS and reported its antioxidant, hepatoprotective and antitrypanosomal activities. The plant is widely used in traditional medicine to cure several ailments like bronchitis, asthma, diabetes, fever, pathogenic infections, gut spasms, as well as renal diseases.

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) results from the combined effects of genetic and environmental factors on multiple tissues over time. Of the >100 variants associated with T2D and related traits in genome-wide association studies (GWAS), >90% occur in non-coding regions, suggesting a strong regulatory component to T2D risk.
