This study aimed to calculate patient radiation doses for adults during the seven most commonly performed conventional X-ray procedures, and to propose national diagnostic reference levels (DRLs). A representative sample of patients from 29 hospitals was included.

Tc-99m HM-PAO has a great potential in the assessment of regional brain perfusion in various neurologic disorders. An atlas of planar and SPECT images of the normal and abnormal human brain has been generated using Tc-99m HM-PAO as the tracer.

Exome sequencing (ES) has revolutionized rare disease management, yet only ~25%-30% of patients receive a molecular diagnosis.

Obesity is characterized by chronic low-grade inflammation. Obese people have higher levels of caveolin-1 (CAV1), a structural and functional protein present in adipose tissues (ATs). We aimed to define the inflammatory mediators that influence CAV1 gene regulation and the associated mechanisms in obesity.

Thymol is a phenolic compound used for its wide spectrum antimicrobial activity. There is a limited understanding of the antimicrobial mechanisms underlying thymol activity. To investigate this, E. coli strain JM109 was exposed to thymol at sub-lethal concentrations and after 16 rounds of exposure, isolates with a 2-fold increased minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) were recovered (JM109-Thyr). The phenotype was stable after multiple sub-cultures without thymol.

Brucellosis is an endemic disease in the Middle East. Its incidence in Kuwait has increased during the last 5 years. Bone and joint involvement causes major symptoms and disabilities. Radionuclide bone scans are more sensitive than radiographs in detecting these lesions.

18F-FDG PET/CT has limited value in early breast cancer. Sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy is the current procedure of choice to search for small metastatic deposits in the axillary lymph nodes in early breast cancer. In this retrospective study, we reevaluated 18F-FDG PET/CT images after locating the SLN on PET/CT with the help of SLN SPECT/CT images and assessed 18F-FDG uptake, particularly in the SLN. Our goal was to understand if combined evaluation of 18F-FDG PET/CT and SLN SPECT/CT could be useful for detecting early lymph node metastasis in the axilla.

Intranuclear rodlets (INRs) are rod-shaped intranuclear bodies of unknown function present in the nuclei of pancreatic beta cells. Previous studies have demonstrated a significant depletion of INRs from beta cells in mouse models of type II diabetes, suggesting that they may have pathological significance.

We report the case of a 45-year-old man with thalassemia major referred for a bone scan as a workup for generalized bone pain. Tc-MDP SPECT CT showed multiple elongated soft tissue masses along the inner aspects of ribs and along both sides of dorsal spine with calcification and mild tracer uptake.

Post-poliomyelitis syndrome causes variable musculoskeletal manifestations including pain, muscle weakness and fatigue. These manifestations are commonly secondary to overuse and misuse of muscles and joints and could follow a fall. Bone scan can be useful in determining the underlying cause and follow-up. The objective of this study was to describe the late scintigraphic patterns on bone scan following poliomyelitis.
