Studies have reported that invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) with coexisting ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) show lower metastatic potential and recurrence and better overall survival than pure IDC. In this study, we assessed F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) images of patients with newly diagnosed IDC to determine if there is any difference in PET findings in IDC-DCIS and pure IDC cases.

Parallax error is a pitfall of pinhole scintigraphy that causes mislocalization of the findings. It is important to notice this error on pinhole thyroid and parathyroid scintigraphy and obtain additional images with a parallel-hole collimator to accurately determine the upper and lower margins of large goiters and nodules and the location of ectopic thyroid tissue and parathyroid adenomas.

Brain inflammation is associated with several brain diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), a disease characterized by demyelination. Whether prenatal immune challenge affects demyelination-induced inflammation in the white matter during adulthood is unclear. In the present study, we used a well-established experimental model of focal demyelination to assess whether prenatal immune challenge affects demyelination-induced inflammation.

The incidence of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) in Kuwait is amongst the highest in the world. Vitamin D is considered to be involved in immune modulation and its deficiency contribute to autoimmune destruction of insulin producing beta cells in T1DM patients. Vitamin D has been shown to exert its effects via a nuclear vitamin D receptor (VDR) and therefore, VDR gene may be considered a candidate for T1DM susceptibility.
